Dear Sunday,
What happened? You used to be the worst day of my week; now I like you more than Friday. A few years ago, I'd avoid you like the plague, staying out as late as possible on Saturday night just hoping you would never come. In fact, if we're being honest, you were almost emotionally abusive. Emails, phone calls, printing massive Powerpoint decks in preparation for Monday.... and then there were more emails. If I set my phone down for five minutes, I was ridden with anxiety about how many I would find in my Inbox when I picked it back up. If the Ravens game was on, you gave me more work to do just so I couldn't watch it in peace. You got exactly what you wanted. You controlled me (and the other 78% of Americans who experience 'Sunday Night Blues' on a weekly basis).
Now, as the wine is decanting and the apartment smells of freshly baked cookies, you've changed, Sunday. Don't try to deny it. You're part of the weekend again and I'm loving every minute of it. Last week, I woke up slow to the bright sunshine beaming through my bedroom window. I went to the farmer's market and found an unexpected $20 bill in my pocket, so I picked up a bouquet of bright yellow tulips. I watched Jay chop vegetable after vegetable as I opened a lovely bottle of local New York wine. French Pandora was playing in the background. That moment when the timer went off, and the kitchen was filled with the aromas of a delicious meal, you were perfect Sunday.
I've grown to love you, Sunday. I love our time together. I love your smells. I love your taste. I love that you make me dance in the kitchen in my pajamas until my cheeks hurt from smiling so hard. I love that we're a team and we try new things together. I no longer crave extra time with Saturday because after a few glasses of Cabernet, I can't even tell the difference between you two. It's amazing how many people don't realize just how special you are. My life has truly changed since we got to know one another and the happiest moments of my week are the ones we spend together. And because of you, I'm confident I've found the love of my life (and maybe he's thanking you for helping him, too).
Love,
Chloe
