Valentines Day Tasting Menu

I apologize for not posting for so long. Still getting used to having a blog... Nonetheless, I wanted to share one of my favorite nights of all time which was Valentines Day, 2016. For those of you who don't remember, Valentines Day fell on a Sunday this year which meant three things (a) Jay and I had no choice but to cook Sunday dinner; (b) we needed to blow it out of the park and (c) we needed to step up our wine game.

It’s so easy to fall into the same routine sometimes and it is important to us to make nights like this one feel special. We’ve learned so much and tried so many new things from cooking together. Not sure what it means to puree? Don’t know what knives to use on veggies versus meat? When I don’t know the answers, Jay usually does. And at the end of the day, we learn a ton about cookings but even more about each other.

So on Valentines Day, Jay and I studied various tasting menus around NYC for a week and came up with a list of what our ideal menu would look like. After a whole lot of shopping at the Union Square Greenmarket, Eataly, Fairway and I think Morton Williams too, we started cooking... oh, and I can't forget the multiple wine store trips (Flatiron Wine & Spirits is awesome if you've never checked it out).

Here are the 8 courses we came up with:

  1. Apples with Fresh Eataly Ricotta Cheese, Served with Lambruso Jam and Smoked Marcona Almonds

  2. Baked Clams Oreganata

  3. Frisee Salad with Lardons and a Heart-Shaped Poached Egg

  4. Bacon-Wrapped Jumbo Sea Scallops

  5. Aglio Olio Peperoncino with Homemade Gluten-Free Spaghetti (inspired by L'Artusi)

  6. Porcini-Crusted Filet Mingon, Served with a Red Wine Reduction

  7. Rasberry-Filled Lindzer Tarts

  8. Dulche De Leche Roasted Banana Split

Hope you enjoy (almost) as much as we did! Please email cjhmdn@gmail.com for any specific recipe requests and we would be happy to share!
